Árboles 2 a 6 m de altura, la corteza de los tallos es oscura, de escasa a moderadamente lenticelada, inconspicuamente puberulenta durante la juventud, pero luego se torna glabrada o glabra.
Hojas con pecíolo de 0,1 a 0,4 cm de largo; lámina de 3,0 a 7,0 por 1,4 a 2,0 cm, de angostamente obovada a elíptico-obovada, de obovada a anchamente obtusa apicalmente, de cuneada a obtusa basalmente, entera, levemente revoluta, de glabra a glabrada; estípulas rápidamente deciduas. Inflorescencias no examinadas. Frutos aparentemente solitarios, subsésiles o en pedúnculos hasta 0,5 cm de largo; copa de 7 a 8 por 16 a 18 mm, anchamente cónica, canela y esparcidamente serícea; nuez 12 a 14 por 15 a 16 mm, con un apículo terminal 1,0 a 1,5 mm de largo, anchamente ovoide, densamente tomentulosa.Holotype for Quercus apanecana Trel.
