Description | MOR Quercus ajoensis C.H. Mull. 175719 FAGACEAE Quercus ajoensis C.H.Mull.
Location: Arizona, US; Ajo Mountains, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, 2 individuals from a dense local population limited to this area (100m stretch) in the south fork of Alamo Canyon (more discrete populations may be present up canyon, also in Arch Canyon); 40 m down canyon from individual #1. UTM: 338320, 3548917 (+/- 3m accuracy); Elevation: 734 m. Plant Attributes: Still a few flowers, few acorns, 3-stem tree, 3m height, dbh: 12cm. Habitat/Associates: n-flowing drainage, grove of oaks; surrounding canyon slopes are a dry rocky desert shrubland of Lycium sp., Simmondsia chinensis, Acacia greggii. In scrubby drainage: Celtis reticulata trees, Sapindus sp., Dodonea viscosa, Prosopis velutina, Ambrosia cordifolia, Baccharis emoryi.
